The National Citizen Service (NCS) programme this Autumn – it is one of the most exhilarating and rewarding times of your life and it is closer than you think.

National Citizen Service (NCS) is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity open to year 12 and 13’s  in England and Northern Ireland. NCS is a fun and unforgettable programme, that helps you build skills for life whilst taking on new challenges and meeting new people.

How does NCS Work?

The Autumn NCS programme is a 4-phase programme, during the Autumn half-term holiday. It's a fantastic opportunity for you to take on exciting new challenges, pick up useful life skills and meet new people - you'll be amazed how much we can squeeze into one week!

Phase 1 - Adventure

(26th - 29th October)

A three-night action packed residential in the heart of Exmoor.

At the start of this residential phase you’ll be picked up by our coaches and taken to Simonsbath House, in the very heart of Exmoor. You’ll be staying in rooms for 3 nights, taking part in a range of adventurous activities from archery to climbing, mountainboarding to axe throwing.

This is the most adventurous phase of NCS, and it’s where you’ll meet the rest of your team. This team will stay with you for the next three stages of NCS.  Together you’ll face various challenges, and learn how to work together as a team.

You’ll be developing leadership and teamwork skills; pushing yourself to achieve your goals. You’ll discover talents you didn’t know you had, make strong bonds with all your team mates and realise what you're capable of.

Phase 2 - Discovery

(30th October - 1st November)

This phase is focused on developing new skills, and increasing your independence.

Once you’ve finished the residential phase you’ll start Phase 2 - the discovery phase - which is a different kind of fun.

You’ll meet up daily in your local area, where you will learn things that will make your CV and UCAS applications stand out. You’ll learn about budgeting and money management, presentation and confidence training, CV writing and   interview skills.

You will also work with organisations and local businesses, which will help you understand about the community around you.

Phase 3 - Social Action

(2nd & 3rd, 9th & 10th November)

A chance to transform your community with your team, where you will design, develop and deliver a social action project.

Now you’re onto phase 3 - the Social Action Phase. This is where you and your team get the chance to design, develop and deliver a project in your community.

This is your teams chance to make a real difference in your community. You have the power to chose who you want to help, what local businesses and         charities you want to get involved, and how you are going to fund and promote your project.

Whether it’s putting on a charity fun day for a cause you’re passionate about; a music event to raise money; or saving your local rivers from pollution, there are so many things your team could do - it’s up to you!

The work you do should boost your UCAS application, looks good on your      personal statement and is a great topic of conversation for job interviews too.

Phase 4 - Celebration

Come together with your friends for your graduation evening and celebrate everything you’ve achieved on NCS.

Now it’s time to celebrate all your hard work. After doing something truly inspirational in your community, you’ll get a well-earned reward. It’s time to celebrate in style!

Join us at a special event this Autumn to collect your certificate signed by the Prime Minister, and enjoy a night celebrating with your new mates and family.

You can take this certificate to your future college, job and university interviews to prove that you are more than just school grades. This qualification is nationally recognised too and it is classed as an enrichment award on your university application.
