EmpowHER Project Inspiring young women and girls to lead change We're looking for girls aged 10-15 in Somerset, to join a girls group called EmpowHER. This is a brilliant opportunity to link with other girls to build on personal skills and to deliver social action projects, as well as gaining a Bronze Youth Achievement award. Each member who completes the programme is also awarded a celebration party and a free hoody! If you have any questions, please contact Andrea White – [email protected] Mobile: 07969 190 862 About EmpowHER EmpowHER is a three-and-a-half-year programme funded by Spirit of 2012 and #iWill and delivered by UK Youth in partnership with the British Red Cross and Young Women’s Trust. The programme aims to inspire young women and girls between 10 -15, to lead change in their communities by engaging in inclusive and meaningful social learning and social action opportunities. The programme was launched to mark the centenary of women’s suffrage and in turn, helps encourage young women and girls to use their voices for positive change – just as their predecessors did 100 years ago. EmpowHER specifically targets young women and girls aged 10 – 15 with low wellbeing, who do not already meaningfully participate in social action and are facing significant barriers. Through the delivery of activity sessions, participants follow a personal development journey learning about individual rights, empowerment and resilience, building their confidence to take part in social action opportunities with the British Red Cross or social action projects of their own. Through the Young Women’s Trust, young women and girls can take part in additional personal development and leadership training call ‘Be Your Best Self.’ In addition to young women and girls developing skills, abilities, and confidence, EmpowHER also supports local communities through the ‘double benefit’ of improvements in social cohesion. A strong research and impact framework are embedded into project, with a learning phrase in between each cycle of delivery involving substantial qualitative data collection and analysis. This is because the programme also aims to further sector learning around improving the wellbeing of young women and girls, as well as the benefits and challenges of leading young people through a social action journey.
