Jasmine’s Story Jasmine has been attending Young Rangers since very near the start of the project when she was 13 and has only ever missed a couple of sessions during the last two and half years. She has been a key member of the group since the start. When she initially joined, she had to be encouraged to attend by her family and she ‘found it OK to attend’ but it took her a while to make friends. Once she found herself a few like-minded ‘crazy’ friends who loved to be outside like she did, she really settled in.Jasmine was initially quite wary of trying activities she hadn’t done before, such as hedge laying and often just watched the activity. A couple of years down the line she is helping some of the new, younger members learn new skills and supports and encourages them to give tasks a go.Jasmine especially likes attending the yearly weekend residential that the Young Rangers go on to national parks like Exmoor and Dartmoor as it is ‘a really good opportunity to make friends and to have fun’.She says that she has learnt new skills at Young Rangers such as map reading, and these have helped her with other things she likes to do such as Duke of Edinburgh and horse riding and has improved her confidence. 💙 You can help us make a difference to more young people lives by supporting Young Somerset - Donate today!
