What is NCS?

National Citizen Service (NCS) is an experience you really don't want to miss. If you're 15 to 17 years-old, this is your chance to embark on exhilarating challenges, make your mark and build skills for work and life. More than 400,000 young people have already said YES to NCS. Don't. Miss. Out.

Last year, Young Somerset took almost 400 young people from across Somerset to the biggest event of the summer!

This year its even bigger and better with over 600 places available and we want you to join us.

On the NCS programme you will take part in adventure, discover your potential in our skills for life phase and be your own boss in a social action project that is run completely by you!

Why take part in NCS?

Not only does NCS mean you will make some amazing new friends, but you will also gain a whole load of skills that will benefit you in the future! Whether you are planning to go to university, get a job or start an apprenticeship, you will learn valuable skills such as, leadership, team work, presentation skills, budgeting and many more! Once you have completed NCS you will also receive a certificate signed by the Prime Minster which you can then put on your CV and take with you to interviews.

Phase 1 - Adventure

On phase one, it's time to challenge yourself!

Living with your team in the great outdoors, you'll get to know some amazing people and enjoy some quality time away from home.

On a 5 day, 4 night residential you will get the chance to experience activities such as climbing, stand up paddle boarding and target sports in the beautiful valley of Exmoor. You will get the chance to meet new people whilst glamping in a pre-prepared campsite all in the safety of trained professionals.

Phase 2 - Discovery

Now's your chance to discover something new!

You'll be reunited with your group for another 5 day, 4 nights residential based away from home in a uni-style environment where you’ll develop life skills like cooking for yourself, confidence, independence, leadership and communication to boost your CV or UCAS personal statement.

You could find yourself meeting organisations and important people from your local community.

Phase 3 - Action

It's time to make your mark! This is where your NCS experience all comes together. All the fun and inspiration from the first two phases means you're ready to step up and deliver your very own social action project. Plan; fundraise; make a difference!

Whether it's painting a wall mural, organising a fun run or holding a charity movie night, this is your chance to get creative and make a difference in your community!

It's time to celebrate in style. We think it's only right that you and your team should enjoy a well-earned reward for doing something truly inspirational in your community.

At the end of your NCS experience, you're now part of the bigger NCS family. This is only just the beginning! You are now an NCS Graduate and you'll get exclusive access to potential volunteering opportunities and apprenticeships as well as amazing discounts and big events!
