Why Work for Us?

Working for Young Somerset

We exist because putting young people first will improve Somerset.

If you believe in the power and ability of young people, love a challenge, enjoy working hard with awesome people who know how to love life, you’ll fit right in at Young Somerset.

We are a charity that operates across Somerset – so you’ll get to travel around this beautiful county and meet different young people. Our staff are lively and energetic – making our offices vibrant and alive; there are very few dull moments here – and we are agile and adaptable.

At Young Somerset, it’s ok to:

…say, “I don’t know”; ask for help; say you don’t understand; introduce yourself; forget things; depend on the team; not know everything; have quiet days; have loud days; to talk, joke, laugh; put your headphones on; say ‘no’ when you’re too busy; make mistakes; sing; sigh; not check your email out of hours; not check your email constantly during hours; just slack it for a bit; walk over and ask someone face-to-face; go somewhere else to concentrate; offer feedback on other people’s work; challenge things you’re not comfortable with; say yes when anyone does a coffee run; have a messy desk; have a tidy desk; work how you like to work; ask the management to fix it; have off-days; have days off…

Our staff are treated well – because we value everyone.

  • Competitive rates of pay
  • Flexible working hours
  • Regular supervision & line management
  • Training & CPD commitment
  • Decent annual leave entitlement
  • Random acts of kindness
