Young Somerset's 2021

Young Somerset has delivered an unprecedented amount of work this year to support children, young people, their families and communities. From open access youth work, to targeted support, from wellbeing to mental health, and skills development to enterprise we have made a difference in many young people’s lives.

We are proud of the way that we work with young people – building relationships with them that are open, honest, trusting, respectful and led by them. We support young people to achieve and overcome adversity in all areas of their lives. We have co-designed and implemented a number of new initiatives and adapted to a rapidly changing environment – one in which change and uncertainty have been almost constant.

Our work with partners has increased – ensuring that we align our services to avoid duplication and add value to the work of others. We are seen as a key VCSE organisation in Somerset – one that has found synergy and alignment with statutory partners. We are continuing to build on our positive profile – locally, regionally, nationally and internationally – and have doubled in size. We now employ over 80 staff, with a further 20 set to join us in early 2022.

In April 2022, Young Somerset (formerly Somerset Rural Youth Project) will be 25 years old – and we will celebrate that achievement, recognising our growth and expansion and our increased ability to make such a positive difference in young people’s lives.Nik Harwood - Chief Executive
